Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 August 2026
Cara Cartolina (caracartolina.com) is a personal language learning app built as a gift project. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
What we collect
- Google account info: your name and email address, used solely to identify your account and keep your data separate from other users.
- Photos: images you upload or import from Google Photos are stored on our server so your AI tutor can discuss them with you.
- Chat messages: your conversation history with your AI tutor is stored so you can pick up where you left off.
- Vocabulary & learning data: words you click for translation and grammar patterns are tracked to personalise your learning experience.
How we use your data
- Your photos and messages are sent to Google's Gemini AI models to generate responses. Google's API terms apply to that processing — we do not control how Google handles data sent to their API.
- We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to any other third parties.
- We do not use your data for advertising.
Google Photos access
If you choose to import photos from Google Photos, we request read-only access to your photo library. We only download the specific photos you select. Your Google Photos credentials are never stored on our server — authentication happens directly with Google.
Data storage
All of your data is stored in the EU. The app and its database run on Railway in the Netherlands; your photos are stored in Google Cloud Storage in Belgium and Sweden. Access is limited to the app administrator.
Data deletion
You can request deletion of all your data at any time by emailing info@caracartolina.com. We will remove your account data within 7 days.
